California is not broadly considered a bastion of conservatism, but few people realize that there are millions of Republicans in the Golden State who care about conservative values and who hold fast to God, family, and sovereignty.
Ron Edwards is one of those California Republicans, and he’s doing his best to fight for parental rights and law and order in District 60, which spans a number of counties, including Riverside and San Jacinto.
Edwards described himself as a “grassroots candidate” to Write Revolution News, and it’s an accurate term. “I am brand new to politics,” he said. “I’m a first-time candidate [and] I tell people all the time: I’m not a rich guy, I’m not a famous guy.”
With a stint in the U.S. Army and decades of service at the U.S. Postal Service under his belt, Edwards is an energetic speaker and is clearly passionate about what he’s doing.
So why is he running for office? According to Edwards, it comes down to parent’s rights and law and order.
“I saw our freedoms eroding,” he said, noting the overwhelming tendency of the government to overstep its boundaries and incur on citizens’ constitutional rights.
He’s running against incumbent Democrat Assemblyman Corey Jackson and Edwards is countering his opponent’s agenda by presenting a down-to-earth campaign based on keeping local classrooms age-appropriate and keeping the police funded.
“Children belong to parents, children do not belong to the government…no one has the right to talk to your child about sex or religion or anything else unless you give them permission and then that’s your job,” he said.
In an age of drag queen story hour and pornographic library books, Edwards’ message is one of clear-cut common sense and many parents likely agree.
On the issue of public safety, Edwards is also straightforward. “The government that’s supposed to be protecting you is actually working against you,” he pointed out.
Lax California enforcement laws and liberal cities have made it nearly impossible to prosecute criminals. Add to that the overwhelming influx of illegal migrants thanks to the open border and California’s status as a “Sanctuary State” and crime has gone through the roof.
Lawless policies have consequences, and the American people are suffering.
“This stuff is like a cancer – if you think it’s only going to be in one place, you’re sadly mistaken,” Edwards remarked.
And he’s right. America is broadly feeling the sting of lawlessness as the illegal immigration crisis continues and left-wing prosecutors and a reckless Biden-Harris administration has seemed to care more about caring for the criminals than the victims.
“People should see what’s happening in California and run away from these Democrats,” Edwards said.
Yet all is not lost in the Golden State. Republican candidates – like Edwards – have risen to the challenge and thrown their hat in the political ring, despite having a concerted distaste for the often-tenuous game. And for him, his faith is a guiding light that consistently gets him through life’s challenges.
“Faith is in everything we do, and when you’re a citizen of the United States whether you understand it or not, faith is really helping you along the way,” Edwards said.
