Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is considering running for governor in Ohio, he said on the PBD Podcast this week.
“If you had asked me six months ago I would have said no,” he said. “I mean, it wasn’t even in my head space, but I will tell you, because I live in Ohio, I was born and raised there, this is the number one thing that people across the state come literally plead with me, beg me to do it.”
He continued, “It’s not something I view as a pleasurable job…so, would I consider it? Yes, I would consider it, but am I definitely on that path? I’m not definitively on any specific path right now. We’re going to let the election play out.”
He said he would prefer to have “clarity” before making a decision to run for governor, and added that the requests among Ohioans for him to run for the office have had an “impact” on him.
Ramaswamy said Ohio had “untapped opportunity” with conservatives in the state that could elevate the region to a competitive position on par with red strongholds like Texas and Florida.
Currently, Gov. Mike DeWine (R) holds the gubernatorial office in Ohio. The next election cycle for the office will be in 2026, but Gov. DeWine is limited to two terms and therefore would not run against Ramaswamy if he chose to throw his hat into the political ring.
