President Donald Trump highlighted the communication blackout in the Southeast United States where Hurricane Helene has devastated communities, announcing that he had spoken with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on addressing the issue.
The president noted that he had planned on visiting North Carolina, but they had “really been hit” and their communications were down.
“They don’t have communication, they don’t have anything right now,” he said. “…I just spoke to Elon, we want to get Starlink hooked up because they have no communication whatsoever. And Elon will always come through.”
Trump added “we’re working on that, getting them hooked up…we’re going to try to get the Starlink in there as soon as possible.”
Starlink is an internet service developed by Musk’s SpaceX company. It delivers the internet worldwide by utilizing satellite technology. It is an excellent way to reach rural or underdeveloped areas where internet service is otherwise inaccessible.
