President Donald Trump took relief supplies to Valdosta, Georgia on Monday as he traveled alongside Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham, bringing a message of unity and hope in such a difficult time for the community hit hard by Hurricane Helene.
President Trump put the presidential election aside on Monday and instead elevated a message of unity as he called for Americans to pull together to come to the aid of their neighbors who have been hurt by Helene’s wrath.
“We look out for one another, we pull together, we pitch in, we persevere, and we pull it through – and that is really the American spirit, that’s what made America originally great,” he said.
President Trump’s remarks were short and solemn, but he encouraged Americans hurt by Helene’s floods and destruction to rise again.
“The path to full and complete recovery…it won’t be easy…we know in our hearts, God is with us, God is strongly with us, and the American people are stronger than any challenge that stands in our way,” he said.
President Trump said he had received a briefing just before speaking and also noted how badly the farmers in the Southeast region had been hurt. He called for “swift aid” to help the farmers whose crops and livelihoods have been decimated “so they can help our nation prosper.”
“We love you,” Trump said, speaking to the survivors in North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.
“We’re here today to stand in complete solidarity with the people of Georgia and all of those suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene,” the president added.
President Trump said they brought “truckloads” of supplies, including clean water, fuel, and “all sorts of equipment” that will assist Samaritan’s Purse in their relief efforts.
He thanked Samaritan’s Purse for their on-the-ground relief efforts and also thanked Franklin Graham for “being there so quickly.”
Graham thanked President Trump for traveling to Georgia and putting a “spotlight” on the devastations there. “We want people to know that God loves them,” Graham said. “…There are storms in life but God will take us through those storms if we put our faith in his son Jesus Christ.”
