President Donald Trump will visit Georgia today amidst the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Helene, according to his campaign.
The president will visit Valdosta and be briefed on the effects of the catastrophic weather. He will then deliver remarks to the press at 2:00 p.m. ET.
According to President Trump, he will also be bringing relief supplies to survivors in the area.
“We’ll be saying hello to Franklin Graham, Burt Jones, Tyler Harper, Mike Collins, Austin Scott, Russ Goodman, Sam Watson, and the Mayor of Valdosta Scott James. They are working very hard,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Helene has carved a devastating path through the Southeast United States since making landfall in Florida last week. According to Fox Weather, more than 100 people have been reported dead since the hurricane ripped through states like North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee, leveling entire towns and deluging communities in floodwaters.
President Trump said in his statement that he had planned to visit North Carolina on Monday but “access and communication is now restricted and we want to make sure that Local Emergency Management is able to focus on helping people the people most affected, and not being concerned with me.”
He added that he didn’t “like” reports about the federal government and Democrat leadership “going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas. MAGA!”
On Sunday, Joe Biden told the press the federal government would be giving no additional resources to regions hit hard by Hurricane Helene. He said they they had “already given” the resources they needed.
This comes amidst other reports that government relief is absent in the wake of Helene’s catastrophic path.
