President Donald Trump said late Tuesday night that Iran has been making “threats” against his life and noted that the U.S. military was standing by.
He wrote on Truth Social, “Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again.”
This news comes on the heels of two assassination attempts on the 45th president this year. As the presidential election looms closer, it seems as if Trump’s life is in increasing peril.
“Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before,” the president wrote.
There are many reasons why Iran would want to assassinate President Trump. First, Trump is highly supportive of Israel and has strongly condemned anti-Semitism. Iran is a massive backer of the terrorist organization Hamas, who is at war with Israel.
It is also always a risk that Iran is acquiring material to build nuclear weapons, as President Trump has warned. Currently, Iran has signaled that it may be open to begin nuclear negotiations with Tehran, although this may be difficult amid mounting tensions in the Middle East, according to Aljazeera.
During his presidency, Trump pulled out of the Iran Nuclear Deal and instead opted to impose strict sanctions on the terrorist-linked country. In 2018, President Trump explained why he pulled the U.S. out of the deal, which he described as “one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into”:
The JCPOA enriched the Iranian regime and enabled its malign behavior, while at best delaying its ability to pursue nuclear weapons and allowing it to preserve nuclear research and development.
According to the United States Institute of Peace, the sanctions were directed toward these five areas:
- “Its controversial nuclear program
- Development and testing of ballistic missiles
- Intervention in the region and support for extremist proxy militias
- Cyber attacks
- Human rights abuses[.]”
Iran may also be doing the bidding of other unknown entities who would like to block President Trump from an increasingly likely victory on November 5 at the ballot box.
A Trump victory in November would signal a return to American sovereignty and the end of Iranian strength and Hamas’s attacks on Israel. It would also signal the resurrection of American military might and, most likely, tough ongoing sanctions on Iran.
In his Truth Social statement, President Trump applauded Congress for allowing more money to be allocated for Secret Service protection.
“Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service – Zero ‘NO’ Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!” he said.
The Trump campaign also responded to the ongoing threats from Iran with a lengthy statement, revealing the president was briefed on Tuesday by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding such threats.
“Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months, and law enforcement officials across all agencies are working to ensure President Trump is protected and the election is free from interference,” said Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung.
Cheung emphasized how much Iran “loves the weakness of Kamala Harris, and is terrified of the strength and resolve of President Trump.”
