The Teamsters – one of North America’s most well-known unions – has declined to endorse Kamala Harris, signaling a massive political shift in the United States with just weeks to go until Election Day.
On Wednesday, the Teamsters released their presidential endorsement polling data, revealing heavy support for President Donald Trump and tepid enthusiasm for Harris’s candidacy.
In their most recent Teamsters electronic member poll, Trump smashed Harris with nearly 60 percent of support against her 34 percent. Their research phone poll showed similar numbers: 58 percent for Trump and 31 percent for Harris.
“Incredible numbers for Trump, devastating for Harris,” said GRV Strategies President Garrett Ventry on X.
He continued, “Trump leads Harris by over 20 points with Teamsters Union Members. They have a significant presence in PA, a critical swing state.”
On Wednesday, the Teamsters puzzlingly declined altogether to issue an endorsement of either presidential candidate for the first time in decades despite their own polling data indicating a big upswing in member support for Trump.
Per their official statement:
After reviewing six months of nationwide member polling and wrapping up nearly a year of rank-and-file roundtable interviews with all major candidates for the presidency, the union was left with few commitments on top Teamsters issues from either former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris—and found no definitive support among members for either party’s nominee.
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said the union declined to issue an endorsement for either Trump or Harris because they were “unable to secure” pledges from both candidates ensuring that the would not interfere in Teamsters’ “critical union campaigns or core Teamsters industries – and to honor our members’ right to strike.”
