First Lady Melania Trump spoke out about the July 13 assassination attempt that nearly claimed her husband’s life in a new video on Tuesday aimed at promoting her upcoming memoir, “MELANIA.”
“The attempt to end my husband’s life was a horrible, distressing experience,” she said.
The president was grazed by a sniper’s bullet two months ago while speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Many questions remain about the harrowing event – how did the shooter gain such easy and quick access to the president? How did so many layers of security seemingly fail that day, whether it was local law enforcement or private security?
“Now, the silence around it feels heavy. I can’t help but wonder, why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest the shooter before the speech?” Mrs. Trump continued.
She added, “There is definitely more to the story, and we need to uncover the truth.”
In the aftermath of President Trump’s near-brush with death, Mrs. Trump released a poignant statement calling for unity, courage, and common sense:
A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion – his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration. The core facets of my husband’s life – his human side – were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times.
Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love. Our personal, structural, and life commitment – until death – is at serious risk. Political concepts are simple when compared to us, human beings.
She called for Americans to “reunite” with the new dawn and issued a challenge to “ascend above the hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence.”
Mrs. Trump’s memoir is slated to release October 8. The book is now available for pre-order.
