Tuesday night’s first (and likely only) presidential debate aired on ABC, displaying an arduous case of ABC moderators covering for Kamala Harris, pushing back constantly on Trump and failing to fact-check any of Harris’s bombastic claims.
Kamala appeared highly rehearsed, but began the night with what appeared to be taut nerves and a dry mouth.
Kamala dug in deep to abortion early in the night, which was the only subject she seemed passionate about. She denied abortions ever took place after the moment of birth (it does), and she gave a rehearsed sob story about how sad it was that some women had to cross state lines to get abortions.
Trump reiterated his stance that abortion is a states’ rights issue. He bifurcated a bit from running mate J.D. Vance on whether he would veto a federal abortion ban.
Harris claimed Trump was weak on foreign policy. This is objectively silly. Everyone knows how silly this is, because there were no new wars under Trump’s administration. The current world chaos erupted under the Biden-Harris administration. This is a fact.
“He would just give up,” she said. Not much of a comeback.
Trump pointed out, “She’s worse than Biden…she goes down as the worst vice president in the history of our country…she is a horrible negotiator. They sent her into negotiation [Russia]. As soon as she left, they did the invasion.”
Moderator David Muir constantly covered for Kamala and never once (to my knowledge), pushed back on Harris. She never answered a question.
“You’re going to hear a WHOLE LOTTA LIES FROM THIS FELLA,” Harris said, when asked if she had ever met with Vladimir Putin.
She appeared to be totally incapable of answering a single question all night.
Trump was strongest on the economy, illegal immigration, and energy. He did outstanding on those points, as expected.
Regarding the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021, which cost 13 soldiers their lives and wounded many more, Kamala Harris avoided the subject and instead claimed that Trump was a terrible negotiator.
“The president at the time invited the Taliban to Camp David,” she claimed, referring to how Trump handled the Afghanistan situation during his first term.
“If you take a look at that period of time, the Taliban was killing a lot of our soldiers with snipers,” he replied. “…Abdul is the head of the Taliban…he said, ‘Why do you send me a picture of my house?’”
The Taliban backed off when Trump was president – this is a fact.
Under Biden-Harris, Afghanistan was surrendered to the Taliban. These are objective facts Harris cannot argue against, which is why she continually deferred to strangulated talking points accusing Trump of weakness or idolization of dictators (none of it is true, and all points are easily debunked).
David Muir even tried to entrap Trump by bringing up Harris’s ethnicity.
“We don’t want this kind of approach that is just constantly trying to divide us, and especially about race,” she commented.
Pot, meet kettle.
She claimed Trump’s early career was ambiguously rooted in owning “land.” She also claimed that he refused to rent to black families.
The claims were wildly salacious and she likely rehearsed these lines for days.
“This is the most divisive presidency in the history of our country,” Trump rebutted.
Megyn Kelly astutely observed in a post-debate analysis: “Their fact checks were full of shit!”
In a very good moment, Trump reminded Americans, “She [Harris] IS Biden.”
He’s right. She IS the embodiment of the current administration, despite the fact that she claimed to represent a “new generation of leadership” in America.
“Let’s talk about our plans!” she claimed. “…I HAVE A PLAN!”
What is it, Kamala?
She listed off a few bullet points including purported down payment assistance for first-time home buyers and child tax credits. This is totally new political language for her, and it seems like a threadbare copy-paste version of Trump’s own platform in many respects. We’ve never heard this kind of rhetoric from Harris. It doesn’t land authentically.
Kamala Harris’s body language was wildly unserious, as well. She constantly smirked, touched her chin, and giggled to herself while Trump spoke. It did not comes across as presidential.
She denied that her prospective administration would try to dismantle the Second Amendment. “Stop with the continuous lies,” she said. (Harris is a big supporter of gun control.)
Harris oddly glorified Liz Cheney, John McCain, and Dick Cheney. This was a mistake on her part. Nobody – Republicans or Democrats – have warm and fuzzy feelings about such establishment politicians.
The bottom line: if Kamala Harris’s ideas are so great…why hasn’t she implemented any of them alongside Joe Biden over the past 3.5 years? How can she promise a brighter future when HER OWN administration has failed?
It is the responsibility of the American people to compare and contrast Trump’s administration against the Biden-Harris disaster and vote accordingly.
