President Donald Trump held a last-minute news conference in New York on Friday morning, where he spent considerable time addressing the now-infamous case between himself and E. Jean Carroll amidst arguments in a Friday appeals hearing in the city.
“This is a disgraceful case,” Trump said.
The president was flanked by attorneys inside Trump Tower, slamming the Department of Justice and accusing the agency of coordinating the justice system itself to target a political opponent.
“Remember, it never happened…the DOJ is behind everything,” he alleged.
Trump specifically zeroed in on Carroll, who has alleged that Trump assaulted her decades ago in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman in New York. The president has strongly and repeatedly denied that such an event ever happened.
“As far as I know, I never met her, I never touched her…I would have had no interest in meeting her in any way, shape, and form,” said Trump.
According to CBS News, the president attended Friday’s 22-minute appeal, which is aimed at undoing a whopping $5 million judgment that previously found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation in 2023.
The judgment was one of two major cases – the second judgment was levied in early 2024, when a jury issued a massive $83 million award to Carroll, via the Associated Press.
“I feel sad that I have to come up here and explain it…legal talent could not overcome rigged judges…I’m disappointed in my legal talent, I’ll be honest with you,” Trump added.
Trump attorney Will Scharf briefly addressed the press this morning, aggressively hammering the case as “utterly implausible” and alleging strongly that there was no existing evidence or surveillance “confirming any aspect of E. Jean Carroll’s story.”
He said the verdict needed to be “overturned” and harshly criticized the court for barring President Trump and his trial team from cross-examining E. Jean Carroll and “other witnesses on crucial issues” during the initial trial.
Trump lawyer and spokesperson Alina Habba also made brief remarks on Friday, appealing to female voters in America.
“I want to speak to the American woman and I want to speak to the people who need to get out and vote November 5…the Trump administration will fix this problem,” she said, referring to a prospective 2025 Trump White House, should he win in November.
Habba said she was “disgusted” with the attacks against President Trump and his family and criticized the Biden-Harris administration as a “regime.”
“As an attorney, as a woman, as a mother, the future of our country depends on [Trump winning],” she said.
