Today, as I watched Congress certify the 2024 Presidential election, I couldn’t help but grin—and even cackle—at the maudlin laments of CNN pundits. It was a satisfying January 6th, and after turning off the TV, I found myself drawn to a book that invites reflection: Our Journey Together by President Donald J. Trump, a splendid volume of photographic treasures perfect for reminiscing.
A glimpse into Donald Trump’s first term
With a collection of the most striking images from 2016 to 2020, President Donald J. Trump recounts the story of his presidency through the lens of history and personal moments.
The book showcases Trump with kings, queens, and world leaders, as well as intimate photos of his family. Some of America’s most recognizable landmarks—Mount Rushmore, the White House, and beyond—are vividly displayed. Trump also celebrates his inner circle, featuring figures like Dan Scavino Jr. and Sergio Gor, whom he calls his “winning team”—a fitting nod to the name of the book’s publisher.
Donald Trump’s book is much like the man himself
As you might expect, Our Journey Together epitomizes Trump’s signature flair and larger-than-life persona. The book is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, featuring the finest paper and a striking cover adorned with gold foil printing. Measuring an impressive 12 x 1.2 x 10.6 inches, this 320-page tome is bold and commanding, much like the man himself.
Like a personal journal, the book features written descriptions, some penned in President Trump’s own handwriting. What sets Our Journey Together apart from other presidential books is its lack of pretense. Ever the quintessential New Yorker, Trump lays it all out with unfiltered candor. Unlike most Presidents, he wears his heart on his sleeve, making his reflections as direct and bold as his personality.
Our Journey Together is relatable
Don’t expect Our Journey Together to hold back on candid commentary. Self-censoring? Never. I couldn’t help but chuckle at some of the handwritten notes, including Trump’s humorous and colorful descriptions of Nancy Pelosi. True to form, President Trump calls it as he sees it. While much of it is amusing, it’s also strikingly genuine. His writing mirrors the way everyday people speak, adding a relatable touch to the book. Combined with the photographs, it reveals the full spectrum of the man.
Capturing an extraordinary movement
Pictures speak volumes, and those curated in Our Journey Together capture the essence of what many consider the most extraordinary political movement in American history—a movement focused on renewing America’s exceptionalism. This stands in stark contrast to the Obama administration that preceded it, highlighting the distinctiveness of Trump’s time in office.
Flipping through the pages, you may find yourself in awe of what transpired, but what impresses me is the unwavering positive intention throughout. This book came out during Biden’s term, an era with days edging towards single digits. In Our Journey Together there is no indication of defeat.
The best is yet to come
Our Journey Together is more than just a historical account; it’s a keepsake for anyone who believed in the America First movement. It’s for those of us who never wavered in our belief that America would rise above the forces determined to undermine her.
This book brings to mind the American standard song “The Best Is Yet to Come,” with the lyrics, “It’s a real good bet, the best is yet to come.” After Our Journey Together, two more books—Letters to Trump and Save America—followed, but America now seems poised to enter a golden era. With Trump ready to begin his nonconsecutive second term (becoming only the second President in American history to do so), my gut tells me that even more volumes from Trump are on the horizon.
As we stand at the crossroads of history, there’s optimism in the air, and reflecting on the past with a book like Our Journey Together gives us the clarity and wisdom to navigate the future with purpose.
