President Donald Trump visited Asheville, North Carolina on Monday morning to survey the harrowing damage caused by Hurricane Helene, offering remarks to the media amid a backdrop of decimated houses and piles of rubble.

The president said he was in state today to “express a simple message to the people of this state: I’m with you, and the American people are with you all the way.”

Trump noted the “power of nature” and the total destruction it had brought to the area, while also criticizing a tepid rescue response from the White House.

“On January 20, you’re going to have, I think, a new crew coming in to do it properly,” he commented, looking ahead to a potential victory in just 15 days.

“We are praying for you and we will not forget about you,” he vowed to the people of North Carolina.

He continued, “When I’m president I will stand with you until the communities are fully rebuilt – every single inch of every property will be fully rebuilt.”

President Trump acknowledged the “extraordinary hardship” brought into the region by Hurricane Helene but also highlighted the “extraordinary love that binds us together as Americans.”

He thanked the nation’s first responders for their fearless dedication to helping devastated communities hit hard by Hurricane Helene.

Trump also elevated the work American citizens have done in the region to help survivors in the absence of much-needed federal assistance.

“The American people answered the call much more so than the federal government, unfortunately,” Trump remarked. “…Nothing is more inspiring than seeing the American spirit triumph over adversity.”

In a very touching moment, a North Carolina man who lost everything in the hurricane thanked the president for coming to the community and prayed over him while the media watched.

“I ask that you would anoint President Donald Trump and give him a spirit of wisdom, and understanding, and insight as he moves to lead this nation back to greatness in Jesus name I pray, amen,” he said.

The president appeared deeply moved and thanked him for the prayer.
