When it comes to perseverance and patriotism, Vanessa Broussard has both in spades.

Hailing from Southeast Texas, many Americans likely recognize the Emmy-nominated Broussard from her time anchoring local news or, until very recently, covering President Donald Trump’s rallies with Right Side Broadcasting Network.

Broussard is a gem on television – bubbly, warm, and bright, her broadcasts are fun and comforting to listen to. Her love for America shines through when she speaks, and her positive attitude is infectious.

But for Broussard – who’s been involved in journalism since she was 16, beginning with writing sports roundups in high school – life hasn’t always been rosy. In fact, it is her journey through tragedy and heartache that has made her who she is: a fighter, a mother, and a patriot with a mission to embrace each day with the mindset of an overcomer.

“I buried my husband and my baby a month and a half apart,” she told Write Revolution News.

Her husband, Tom Broussard, passed away from an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2019. She was pregnant at the time with a little boy. Tragically, her young son was stillborn after Broussard battled a deadly pregnancy-related condition called preeclampsia, which nearly took her life.

“I was just in the darkest spot you could ever imagine,” she said. “…I didn’t understand why God would take them but not me.”

For about six months following these tragic events, Broussard continued working as a morning show anchor at KBMT in Beaumont, Texas, but the day-to-day battle was tremendously difficult. “I didn’t want to face the world,” she said.

But the Devil was not going to win, according to Broussard. Remarkably, her husband, Tom, had gone to a fertility clinic before his passing and banked there so that his wife could have a family if he did not survive his cancer diagnosis.

“[I] went through the IVF process and the doctors watched me like a hawk,” Broussard said. Her son, Marty, was born December 2021, and he has been a ray of sunshine in her life.

“He looks like Tom, he has the same sweet demeanor as Tom,” she said.

Broussard explained how her late husband was intrinsically positive. “Tom was such a positive person…no matter if he was having a great day or having a terrible day…it was always ‘the best day ever,’” she said.

It is clear that this inspirational mindset is something Broussard takes to heart. She has worked not only as a reporter, producer, and anchor, but as an inspirational speaker and mental health advocate.

“I could have easily gone down a dark path…but I was a widow at 37 years old, I had a whole life to live and I refused to live in depression!” she explained.

Covering Trump and surviving July 13

After her son was born, she jumped back into news in 2022 when she joined the team at Right Side Broadcasting Network, where she traveled the country and covered President Donald Trump’s many rallies and events.

“I’ve met so many wonderful people across the country – people who are now lifelong friends and people who I consider family, and I’ve stayed in contact and I will stay in contact with them the rest of my life,” she said.

The president’s signature MAGA rallies are unique – packed with tens of thousands of people, the energy is electric and the events are historic.

“You’re reminded there’s much more good in this world than there is bad,” Broussard said. “…It is rewarding at the end of the day to come home and think, ‘There’s so many good people who love the Lord, they love our freedom, they love our country.’”

Broussard has broadcast from nearly every venue imaginable, from President Trump’s sprawling Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, to Green Bay, Wisconsin.

And, on July 13, 2024, Broussard was broadcasting live when President Donald Trump was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“All I could do was jump off the media risers and take cover and I never took my eyes off [Trump],” she said, recalling the moment gunfire broke out at the rally.

Amidst screams and the scurry of Secret Service, Broussard said she prayed for Trump to survive while she was on the ground and the bullets were flying.

“When they pulled him up…I still didn’t know, is he dead or alive?” she recalled.

She described the crowd’s collective gasp when the president raised his fist, face smeared with blood, and mouthed, “FIGHT! FIGHT!”

“To this day, a lot of it’s a blur,” she shared, reflecting on the trauma of surviving a mass shooting event and seeing the 45th president nearly assassinated in front of the entire world.

It’s a moment that the America will always remember, and it makes Broussard’s next steps even more impactful.

Launching Vanessa Broussard Media

On Saturday, October 5, President Donald Trump is holding a one-month countdown rally to the November presidential election in Butler, Pennsylvania – a triumphant return after surviving the unthinkable in July.

And Broussard will be there, too. In the late summer of this year, Broussard resigned from Right Side Broadcasting Network, and this week, she launched Vanessa Broussard Media, LLC., which will bring viewers live coverage and special stories on the campaign trail leading up to the presidential election and beyond.

Returning to Butler is a milestone for Broussard. “I want to go back and say this is a nice, quaint, beautiful town, this isn’t a crime scene,” she explained. “And I think it will help bring me closure and help me mentally.”

And for President Trump, he seems to be clearly showing the world that not only did he survive the July 13 assassination attempt, he triumphed over it, along with everyone who was on the ground that fateful day.

Going “back to Butler” marks the first assignment of Broussard’s new media foray, but it’s really a continuation of the same important work she’s been doing. “I didn’t want to stop what I was doing,” she said. “We’re in the ninth inning!”

With 26 years of experience in journalism, Broussard is well-equipped for the job. She’s enlisted the help of skilled colleagues to launch and operate the company, which will include both live-streaming and, eventually, podcasts and shows.

Her coverage of President Trump’s historic Butler rally on October 5 will be live-streamed on social media and YouTube and she will also be recording other interviews and pieces of interest for a follow-up coverage package.

For many Americans who were fans of Broussard’s even-keeled coverage of President Trump’s campaign over the past couple of years, this will be welcome news.

Broussard has proven that not only is she an overcomer – she’s an entrepreneur. With the future of America at stake for the next generation, she firmly believes that “mama bears are going to save this country.”

And they will. With patriots like Vanessa Broussard willing to wade into the fray, how can the nation lose? Broussard’s tale of triumph over tragedy is a testament to the beauty of the American dream, and a reminder that with the right mindset and a will to survive, every day can indeed be “the best day ever.”
